Dutch bikes with Child Seats

No problem, they’ll fit on your bike with a ‘kinderzitje’ or two. That’s Dutch for child seat, and the Dutch have managed to make room for their (young) offspring on mom’s Dutch City Bike. I say young, because after the age of 5 or 6, kids in Holland are expected to pedal for themselves!
Typically, the first child’s seat is fitted to the front of the bike, just aft of the handlebars. This lets mom keep an eye on the little bugger, just to make sure everything’s ok. Then, when the second one arrives, the older of the two is moved to the rear cargo carrier. In the picture above, you can see that this mom has even managed to find space for the kid’s buggy on the back. Amazing.
Another option, if you have more than 2 kids, or want to join the latest trend, is the bakfiets (cargobike). On a bakfiets,you can cram 3 or more kids in the front. Click past the break to see how.
